An indictment does indictment mean jail time is a formal accusation that an individual has committed a serious crime. It's issued by a grand jury after they review the evidence and determine if there's enough evidence to bring charges. While an indictment is a grave matter, it doesn't automatically mean that the individual charged will go to jail.
